The global ecological crisis is becoming increasingly alarming due to the excessive exploitation of natural resources, as evidenced by deforestation, water scarcity, and the degradation of coastal areas. The impacts not only damage biodiversity and disrupt ecosystem balance, but also affect the socio-economic conditions of communities and exacerbate intergenerational inequality. Furthermore, the growing anthropocentric paradigm, both in economic practices and theological understanding, has contributed to driving unsustainable exploitation. This study aims to explore the role of humans as priests of nature as a solution to the ecological crisis by reexamining the theological understanding of Genesis 1:28, particularly the terms kavasy and rada. The research employs a qualitative approach through literature analysis and ecotheological study, focusing on the contextual and symbolic interpretation of biblical texts. The findings indicate that misinterpretations of Genesis 1:28 have perpetuated an anthropocentric paradigm that legitimizes the exploitation of nature. A reinterpretation through an ecotheological approach reveals that humans are called to act as priests who are responsible for caring for and preserving creation, rather than exploiting it. In conclusion, a theological reinterpretation of Genesis 1:28 through an ecotheological perspective can serve as an ethical and spiritual foundation for promoting sustainable natural resource management and mitigating the ecological crisis.
