The Confession of Sin in Numbers 21:4–9 and Its Contextual Expression in the Naketi Uab Ritual of the Dawan Ethnic Group

This study aims to develop a contextualized confession ritual by integrating the local Dawan cultural practice known as naketi uab with the biblical narrative in Numbers 21:4–9. Both traditions reflect a similar theological theme: divine punishment as a consequence of human sin, and the availability of forgiveness for those who repent and confess before God. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, utilizing literature review and critical exegetical analysis of both biblical and cultural texts. The findings reveal a strong point of convergence between the cultural meaning and the theological message, indicating that naketi uab can be reinterpreted through Christian values without losing its cultural essence. In conclusion, naketi uab can be developed into a culturally rooted Christian confession ritual, contributing to the advancement of contextual theology and the enrichment of liturgical practices that are culturally relevant and theologically sound.
